Response to email subject “Dar Al Arkan Funding Crisis”
We have become aware of a malicious email being circulated by an “Anonymous” source with a link to a website. We believe that this is an attempt to harm Dar Al Arkan, and its Investors.
The website makes various unproven allegations and accusations. It largely relies on unauthenticated documentations, false information, forged documents and conflicting information, while also misconstruing and misrepresenting some other facts.
The overall intent seems to lead readers to false conclusions, mixing fact and fiction and to harm Dar Al Arkan by creating a false image of a company that is not in compliance with regulatory authorities. We re-assert our position that we have always been in full compliance with all requirements of CMA and other capital market authorities that regulate us.
Furthermore, by using “Dar Al Arkan Funding Crisis” as a web address, the implication seems to be Dar Al-Arkan is facing some sort of crisis. We categorically deny that Dar Al-Arkan is facing any sort of crisis. It is worth noting that our business is robust and we are on track to repay all debts as they come due including the upcoming Sukuk in July 2012.
As this “anonymous email” does not name who are behind it, we speculate that it was created by “Majed Al-Refai” the former CEO of Unicorn Bank. Al-Refai was fired from Unicorn back in August 2010 and subsequent investigations revealed various misdoings which includes 58 criminal offences, including misappropriating bank funds, against him in Bahrain as per an independent forensic investigation assigned by the Public Prosecutor of Bahrain to Deloitte International. To date, Al-Rifai failed to attend any of the several Criminal & Civil legal cases against him in Bahrain; therefore, an international Interpol notice for his arrest has been issued on Jan. 2012.
This former senior employee of Unicorn Bank has already sent all this information to authorities, at the beginning of 2011. The authorities have looked into the matter at that time and did not find any validity to the allegations.
Dar Al Arkan adheres to the highest standards of disclosure and prides itself on its transparent approach to investors and all other stakeholders. As always we welcome any question.
