Yesterday's Close:1.5727 High:1.5795 Low:1.5687

Sterling put in a mixed performance on Tuesday, falling against the euro but hitting its highest level against the dollar since the start of the Iraq war as investors scaled back hopes of a quick end to the conflict.

Reports of fierce resistance from Iraqi troops weighed heavily on the dollar in early trade, but the U.S. currency recovered from its lows as Wall Street stocks opened flat and U.S. military officials assured that the war effort was on track. The pound was little changed at $1.5735 at close, having earlier pushed to a one-week high at $1.5795. It had fell more than half a percent tot 68.00 pence per euro, before recovering to close around 67.70 ,with thin trading conditions making for choppy price moves.
