Benzene prices close out Jan 14 $40/mt higher than close Jan 7
Benzene prices fluctuated during the course of the trading week, closing out Jan 14 $40/mt higher than the close Jan 7. January trades were noted at $845-847/mt CIF ARA, and $855/mt CIF, before falling to $840/mt CIF, $830/mt CIF, and $822/mt CIF. February traded at $875-880/mt CIF, before hitting a high of $905/mt CIF. Later in the week, business was concluded at $852/mt CIF, $850/mt CIF, $848/mt CIF, $845/mt CIF, $842/mt CIF, $835/mt CIF, and $830/mt CIF. By end week, February value had moved back to the $850-860/mt CIF level, with January some $10/mt CIF lower. Meanwhile, product for delivery in March was reported concluded at $855/mt CIF. Sources attributed the higher prices to strength in US and Asian markets. Elsewhere, the majority of NWE benzene participants had accepted the January contract price of Eur547/mt FD NWE barges that was initially agreed Dec 30, according to sources involved in negotiations.
