Unlike the oil shocks of 1973 and 1980, windfalls from higher oil prices during 2004 aren't being ploughed back entirely and automatically into foreign bank accounts. Instead investors across the region have been putting a lot of this excess cash to work in the local economies, primarily through the real estate and stock markets. The result has been astounding. From around $361.8 billion at the end of 2003, the combined market capitalisation of Arab bourses jumped by $111.8 billion to nearly $473.6 billion at the end of August - a cool 31% increase. The combined wealth effect of higher oil prices and runaway stock markets has pushed the private wealth of private investors in the six Arab Gulf nations to an estimated $1.5 trillion.

The return of the money is very healthy for our country as long as we open transparent channels For investment such as the stock market
