Clients use this software for activities such as a professor assigning digital materials on a class website; a student collaborating with peers or completing research online; an administrator managing a departmental website; or a merchant conducting cash-free transactions with students and faculty through pre-funded debit accounts... In 2003, revs were $92.5 mln, up 32% yoy. The co is not yet profitable, but is approaching break-even.... The co has strong market position as 46% of the US postsecondary institutions that use one or more course management systems use the Blackboard Learning System, making it the most widely adopted course management system among institutions using products of this type... Software IPOs have generally fared above average the past few months. That this co is not profitable may have caused it from not pricing more strongly. This is a 5.5 mln share deal, led by CSFB, and will begin trading this morning.
