Rockwell Gets $1.3 Billion China Contract
HONG KONG (Reuters) - Shenzhen's underground railway operator, Shenzhen Metro, has awarded a $1.27 billion contract to Rockwell Automation (NYSE:ROK - News) and Beijing Hollysys to install an environmental control and monitoring system, the South China Morning Post reported on Monday.
The contract is for the first phase of the Shenzhen subway line, which has not yet been built, the paper said.
The paper did not say how the contract would be divided between the two firms.
Milwaukee, Wisconsin-based Rockwell (NYSE:ROK - News) provides automation control systems for commuter railways in Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, it added.
"We've taken that success in Hong Kong and migrated into China and that's why we're successful in Shenzhen," the paper quoted Rockwell's Asia-Pacific president Gregory Geiger as saying.
Rockwell also plans to invest US$2-3 million this fall in an application development center in Shenzhen, and that center would develop mass transit applications for Asia-Pacific, the paper said.
