Trailing Stops
As part of our new Advanced Trade Ticket, you'll now have access to trailing stops.
Trailing stops help you manage risk and help protect your gains. It works like a Stop Order, but instead of a stop price, you choose a stop parameter by points or percentages, creating a moving activation price.
For example, let's say you own 200 shares with a cost basis of $15 and you want to protect yourself against a drop. Instead of a stop market order at $13, you place a trailing stop with a stop parameter of 2 points. The activation price is the current price minus the stop parameter. That means the initial activation price is $13. If the stock never goes higher than $15, the order will activate at $13. If the stock goes up to $16, the activation price becomes $14. Once activated, the order becomes a market order.
Check out trailing stops today! Log on to our Web site, go to the Advanced Trade ticket, select Trailing Stop from the "Term" drop-down menu, and then complete the rest of the Advanced Trade ticket. You're now trading with Trailing Stops!
