Metro One Swung to 3Q Loss; To End AT&T Wireless Pact

24 Oct 08:17

PORTLAND, Ore. (Dow Jones)--Metro One Telecommunications Inc. (MTON) swung to
a third-quarter loss, and said it plans to discontinue service for AT&T
Wireless (AWE).

The company said its current directory assistance agreement with AT&T
Wireless is set to expire Dec. 1, and talks didn't result in a new contract.

Metro One reported a loss for the three months ended Sept. 30 of $10.7
million, or 43 cents a share, down from income of $7.4 million, or 30 cents a
share, last year.

In a press release Friday, the directory assistance provider said revenue for
the quarter fell to $45.5 million from $66.2 million a year ago.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call were expecting Metro One to report a
loss of 30 cents a share on revenue of $45.9 million for the third quarter.

Metro One said it incurred about $14.5 million in advertising expenses during
the third quarter to continue the launch of its premium Infone service, which
started in May and has surpassed 35,000 registered users.

The company plans to "work vigorously" to add to its wholesale business and
pursue other business opportunities in the wake of the discontinuation of the
AT&T Wireless pact.
