Macnica and Tripath to Co-Develop 8-Channel Digital Amplifier Module

SAN JOSE, Calif., Jun 17, 2003 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Macnica, Inc., a TecStar company and $680M semiconductor distributor located in Japan, and Tripath Technology Inc. (TRPH) , creators of 1-bit Delta Sigma Digital Audio Amplifiers, announced today they will co-develop an 8-channel digital amplifier that will be integrated into a single module.

This new-concept module consists of a digital interface, volume control, Tripath's patented 1-bit delta sigma modulators, its patented high-power digital amplifier drivers, and transistors driven at the final stage that produces digital audio signal to external low-pass filters. The module targets 8 channel, greater than 100W per channel output power, 0.01% total harmonic distortion plus noise (THD+N) into 8-ohm load (speakers). Because the module is being optimized for Tripath's chipsets, power efficiency of greater than 95% is anticipated.
